FEATURED HUNTER
ROB HEWES

Rob Hewes has been leasing properties in Ohio and Indiana since 2010.  Rob had trail cam photos of the deer in the photo to the left 2 years ago when he was about 150″ and was 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 years old.  As Rob explains, “I never saw him last year, but ended up shooting him this year.  I think he scores a 160” or better.  He’s a mainframe 11 with a broken point.  I’ll absolutely have him mounted in a semi upright with a left turn.  This was one of my most memorable hunts since I’ve hunted him for 2 years.  My other most memborable hunt was last year in Indiana because my father was with me and he’s 73 years old.  That buck scored in the mid 150’s.”Rob lives in Vermont and usually spends 2 to 3 weeks in the Midwest each year.  Why not hunt Vermont?  “The deer in Vermont don’t even compare to the Midwest.  A 2 1/2 year old in Vermont weights 120 to 150 and is a 4-6 pointer.”

Rob says he’ll be keeping this Knox County, Ohio lease as long as it’s available since he also harvested an 11 pointer 2 years ago.

Thanks for sharing your photos, Rob!

FEATURED PROPERTY: #5872

Manistee County, MI
71 Acres
Max Hunters: 4
$1,800

This is the kind of northern Michigan lease that can produce large deer for the patient hunter.  It is a combination of thick dense pine and young maple.  The high hills create some nice pinch points, shelter from the wind and great well traveled runs.   There are lots of mature trees to hang a stand and access is easy with roads on two sides.   This one is located in the Marilla township just south of Mesick where the surrounding properties are large and privately owned.  There is agriculture near by to keep the deer fed.

Plenty of deer sign were visible during the inspection with lots of deer runs and quite a few scrapes and rubs.  If you haven’t hunted northern Manistee County, it is worth checking this one out.  More Info.

GET TO KNOW

Michigan Leasing Agent:

Jeff McAlary

Jeff was born and raised near the Lake Michigan lake shore where he grew up in a small town where working on local farms was the norm.  He began hunting small game with his father at a very early age and couldn’t wait until he could hunt deer for the first time at age 14. He credits his love of the outdoors to having grown up in a rural community. In the last 34 years, Jeff has hunted all over Michigan; from grouse hunting the western edge of the Upper Peninsula to bow hunting on Drummond Island, and from rifle hunting the Traverse City area to pheasant hunting Lenwee County in the southeast corner of the Lower Peninsula. During his travels, he is always looking for good Michigan land to introduce into the Base Camp leasing program.

Along with chasing whitetail deer, Jeff spends countless hours afield hunting rabbits, grouse, woodcock, pheasants, ducks and geese. He gets the most enjoyment from introducing someone to hunting or taking them to that special hunting spot. Jeff can help you find just the right Michigan hunting lease.

Jeff has been a Michigan police officer for 23 years. He knows how important it is for landowners to receive respect and communication when it comes to their property and how important it is for hunters to have a safe and comfortable place to hunt. When he isn’t working, he can usually be found somewhere in Michigan sitting in a tree, scouting hunting property or following his bird dog Gipper. He currently resides in western Michigan with his wonderful wife Jane and three sons, who all enjoy the outdoors.

If you have questions about finding that perfect piece of property to lease for yourself, Jeff can be reached at jeff@basecampleasing.com.
